Presidential single-signed baseballs dating from the first half of the twentieth century are highly desirable and rare. This single-signed ball by Calvin Coolidge, 30th President of the United States, is an extreme rarity. This is the very first Coolidge single-signed ball we have ever seen!
Coolidge has signed the official American League baseball (Barnard) in blue fountain pen on the sweet spot of the baseball. Based upon those stampings, this ball can be dated precisely to the manufacturing period of 1927, indicating that it was signed by Coolidge during his term in office (1923-1929). It is interesting to note that President Coolidge was not a fan of our national pastime. It is reported that his appearances at the ballpark were just political related. The record shows that Coolidge attended eleven Major League games during his presidency, including four season openers in Washington where he threw out the ceremonial first pitch and five World Series games (1924 and 1925). For anyone attempting to assemble a complete run of signed presidential baseballs, this is an extremely rare opportunity. The ball is in Good condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA.
